FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01 | HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

The course of therapy is different for each person, and depends on your unique goals and needs. Sometimes people work with me for a few months during or after a time of transition. Most of my clients benefit from working with me longer term over various stages of life. This could be one year to multiple years depending on the person.Therapy, like growth, is a nonlinear process that takes time and I invite you to be open to the possibilities. Some clients may seek a reflection/integration session to review progress and check in about goals. I weave this in throughout therapy to help clients notice and celebrate their changes. If you are a parent, then we may schedule a check-in session for your teen based on their comfort/permission to explore their progress.

02 | WHY ONLINE THERAPY?

I believe therapy should be accessible and comfortable for the clients I work with. For folks with busy schedules, telehealth can be very convenient, minimizing parking and logistical stress, reducing commute time, and childcare costs. Talking and reflecting in a space you feel supported and safe in, may allow you to delve in and explore yourself deeper. Telehealth benefits most of the clients, but is not recommended for clients who may be in an acute mental health crisis. In addition, due to licensure limitations, I am unable to work with clients physically located outside the state of CA, though may provide continuous care in some instances for temporary periods like vacations.

03 | DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance. Insurance companies require me to diagnose clients and often allow only a certain number of sessions based on the diagnoses. Insurance companies are notoriously difficult to manage, requiring justification of services. Private pay provides increased confidentiality and flexibility in our work, but I also know this isn’t always financially feasible. Many health insurance companies will reimburse a percentage of my service as an out-of network provider, and I can provide you with a superbill to submit. You can call your provider to check your benefits and the reimbursement rate for therapy sessions (whether partial or full).

04 | WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

My rates are similar to experienced therapists in the area. Please contact me directly to discuss the current rate. I also offer several sliding scale slots and encourage you to discuss your budget with me if cost is a factor in obtaining care.

Simple Practice is the client portal through which clients can access and submit documents, update and review billing and receive superbills, cancel and reschedule sessions, and send me secure messages. They have wonderful help articles. I recommend all new clients download their client portal app, and their telehealth app to assist our work together.
